Photo and film opportunity: Brislington Enterprise College, Tuesday 19 August, 10.30am
Reporters, photographers and film crews are invited to the official handover of Brislington Enterprise College on Tuesday 19 August 2008 at 10.30am. Bristol Local Education Partnership (LEP) will present John Matthews, the Principal, and Bristol City Council with the keys to the new school. Access is via the entrance to the old school off Hungerford Road BS4 5EY.
Headteacher, Theresa Thorne; Bristol City Council's Cabinet Member for Cohesion and Raising Attainment, Councillor Peter Hammond; and representatives from Bristol Local Education Partnership and Skanska, will be available for interview and you can tour the school.
There is no parking in front of the school so access will be via Alexandra Park (off Fishponds Road, almost opposite Lodge Causeway) where parking will be available on site.
Two pupils go back to school after 70 years to open Bristol’s newest secondary school.
Completion of an exciting new secondary school for Bristol children will be celebrated when the keys to the new building for Brislington Enterprise College are handed over on 19 August.
Bristol LEP (www.bristollep.co.uk) will ceremonially present the keys to John Matthews, the Principal, and Bristol City Council representatives.
The LEP has delivered the new college on time and on budget under the Government’s Building Schools for the Future Programme. Students and staff will move in when term starts at the beginning of September. Demolition of the old school dating from the 1950s has already begun.
With space for 1,755 students divided into seven ‘learning communities’, Brislington Enterprise College is the first school under the programme – and the first in Bristol – to be designed as a series of ‘schools within a school.’
