About us

Beginning in 2007, the LEP began delivering the first of four new-build schools (also known as “Pathfinder” schools), each of which includes transformational features that meet the aspirations of the schools and Bristol City Council as well as the objectives of the BSF programme.

Over the 10 years of its contract, Bristol LEP is working to develop these and other projects:

Pathfinder schools

  • Bristol Brunel Academy was newly built and officially opened by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown in September 2007.

  • Bristol Metropolitan Academy was newly built and officially opened by two of its oldest former students and two of its youngest students in July 2008.

  • Brislington Enterprise College was newly built and officially opened by Grand Designs TV presenter Kevin McCloud in November 2008.

  • Bridge Learning Campus in Hartcliffe was newly built and officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal in October 2009.

Wave 4 schools

  • Ashton Park School – work is under way on a new teaching block due to open in September 2010, to be followed by a new block linking existing and new buildings.

  • Cotham School – a new teaching block now under construction is due to open in September 2010.

  • Knowle DGE – a new school being built for students with special needs is due to open in June 2010.

  • St. Bede’s Catholic College – work is under way on a new sports hall and a new building for design & technology, art, music and drama. Science facilities, some classrooms and the library will also be improved.

  • St. Bernadette Catholic Secondary School – science facilities have been extended and refurbished, a new creative arts building has been completed and work is under way on improving facilities for other areas of learning.

  • St. Mary Redcliffe and Temple School – a new teaching block on four levels is being built to wrap around existing buildings, with a covered street linking the existing buildings with the new, and is due for completion in October 2010.

Academies

  • Bristol Cathedral Choir School – two existing buildings have been converted and remodelled to provide additional teaching accommodation as part of an ongoing phased redevelopment. They were officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal in February 2010.

  • Colston's Girls' School – construction work is due to start in spring 2010 on a major expansion that will provide a new arts block and a music pavilion.

  • Oasis Academy Bristol – a new school at Hengrove is due to open in September 2010.

Primary schools

  • Henbury Court Primary School was extended and reburbished and officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Bristol in March 2009.

  • Horfield CE Primary School was extended and reburbished and officially opened by Bristol North MP Doug Naysmith in December 2009.

  • Bristol LEP is working with Bristol City Council on plans to develop further primary schools.
